Guide Review - Game Review: 'Wolfenstein 3D Classic'
Action games usually suffer on the mobile phone – especially when they are translated from an already well-known title – but Wolfenstein 3D Classic manages to impress as much as it did nearly two decades ago on the PC. The premise is simple: Run through a Nazi-filled castle shooting enemies, finding stolen treasure and looking for the exit. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. There isn’t much depth here. Wolfenstein 3D Classic does offer extremely fast gameplay, nice visuals and several different powerful weapons. The one rub is the controls which, by default, require putting the left or right thumb on the iPhone screen to move. The “thumb press” technique isn’t bad, but the method is not as intuitive as the good-old PC keyboard. (Luckily there are a few different control options in Wolfenstein 3D ). The Nazi killing, guard dog shooting and (cartoon) blood spilling may turn off easily offended gamers. Otherwise, Wolfenstein 3D Classic is a nice, long action game that doesn’t require much thought or patience.
